Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of the study was to examine the utility of expressive writing on job search behaviors of individuals who lost their jobs. The effect of expressive writing as a preventive intervention was explored by conducing an experiment on college freshmen. Research seminars were held in order to gain better understandings on job search behaviors of those who lost their jobs. The needs for the investigation of mental health and job search behaviors were identified. The results of a survey with unemployed people showed that the majority of individuals did not engage in job search in the past three months. Physical and mental health and stigma attached to the unemployed were negatively correlated with occupational volatility and job search support. In order to develop better occupational counseling for involuntarily unemployed individuals, further data collections are needed to investigate job search behaviors and their correlates.
