Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study examined the within-subject variances and causal effects of treatments using data from the Japanese Life Course Panel Survey (JLPS) and Social Stratification and Social Mobility Survey (SSM). There are two significant results. One is the paper investigating the actual and heterogeneous effects of shadow education in Japan using propensity score matching for which I won the encouragement award of the Japan Society of Educational Sociology. The other one is a book titled “Why the Public Expenditure on Education in Japan is Small?” including panel data analysis for which I obtained the Suntory Prize for Social Sciences and Humanities. These results show the importance of longitudinal data analysis.
