Outline of Annual Research Achievements

この研究では層欠陥、周期構造などナノ構造があるグラフェンの電気伝導、電子状態などを理論的に研究し、トポロジカルに特異な2次元系でのメゾスコピック現象を解明し予言することを目的とする。
扁平したカーボンナノチューブを閉じた端のある2層グラフェンと見なしその境界条件を有効質量近似の方法により導いた。特に電子状態変化の大きい肘掛け椅子とジグザグ型ナノチューブに着目し、2層グラフェンをずらした場合の電子状態の変化を、境界での反射係数と量子化条件により再現した。特にディラック点と線形分散状態に注目し、カイラル状態を示した。これは片方の線形分散だけが境界条件を満たすためである。また、AB積層の場合にエネルギーギャップを示した。これは結合状態が境界条件を満たし伝導帯が常に0エネルギーから始まるのに対し、反結合状態は境界条件を満たさず価電子帯が下がるためである。最終年度は特にこの研究成果を招待講演にて発表した。
さらにゲート電圧下の2層グラフェンにおけるバレーホール伝導度を自己無撞着ボルン近似により計算した。バレーホール効果は長距離不純物ポテンシャルがある場合に増強されることを示した。
さらにグラフェンナノリボンの光物性の再検討を行った。光を入射した際の光電場のグラフェンナノリボン付近での動的変調などを主に調べ、グラフェンナノリボンが紫外光をテラヘルツの周期で変調させる作用があることをシミュレーションで発見した。変調された紫外光を光伝導特性を持つ半導体に当てると半導体内にテラヘルツ周期で変調された光電流が流れるため、それをアンテナに流すとテラヘルツ波の発振が可能になると予想される。これにより、有機物質の特定や生体観察などに利用できるコンパクトなテラヘルツ波発振素子を開発できる可能性が考えられ、その特許を出願した。
