Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In May 2013, the rocket experiments were carried out in the Marshall Islands in collaboration with NASA and Clemson University . Two rockets were launched 1 minute apart and at 19 hour local time, when sunlight was over 100 km altitudes but there was no sunlight on the ground. The rockets observed simultaneously neutral atmosphere and plasma in lower and upper thermosphere (ionospheric E and F layers). Lithium ejection system developed in collaboration with Clemson University was used to release Lithium atoms from rocket. The generated Lithium and TMA clouds were observed with high sensitivity CCD cameras and videos from Roi, Longelap and Rikieppu islands. We found strong neutral wind shear at ~100 km altitude.
