Outline of Final Research Achievements

We have newly identified several active faults in terms of stress field, around a major earthquake fault zone detected in geophysical seismic dataset, by analyzing borehole images acquired at a drill hole in the Nankai Trough area. Geologic modelling results show that internal stresses of an accretionary prism should be highly fluctuated during its deformation process. These are new and significant understandings to detect ‘stress-active faults’ and the nature of stress fluctuations.
