Outline of Final Research Achievements

Nuclear pore proteins from Drosophila simulans cause reproductive isolation in D. melanogaster. The present study clarified (1) two scafold nucleoporins (Nup160 and Nup96) interact each other, (2) these two nucleoporins are necessary but not enough to cause hybrid inviability, and (3) Nup160 alone causes hybrid female sterility but Nup96 does not. Thus, genetic system of hybrid incompatibility is not simple.
