Outline of Final Research Achievements

The structures and physiological functions were studied on the several lectin fractions which purified from Pteria penguin pearl oyster. In these fractions, N-terminal sequences of five fractions were homologous reciprocally.
These physiological functions were roughly classified into three groups. ① Self-defence function by agglutinating of gram negative bacteria and antigen presenting . ② Role as a matrix protein of calcium carbonate crystallization and as facilitating the aragonite crystal formation. ③ Involvement in the control of maturation in unfertilized eggs.
