Outline of Final Research Achievements

We have isolated and characterized new chondroitin sulfate sampls from several shark cartilage and examined their binding property to some important biological substances such as midkine and preiotrophin. Furthermore, we have looked at in vivo effects of new chondroitin sulfates on elongation of neurites of mouse embryonic nuroblasts and have found that new chondroitin sulfate samples showed strong effects on neurite elongation compared to usual chondroitin sulfate isolated from whale/bovine cartilage.
