Outline of Final Research Achievements

The final goal of this study is selective detection of pathogenic autoantibodies in systemic lupus erythematosus and/or antiphospholipid syndrome. For the first step, we studied whether anti-DNA and antiphospholipid antibodies have activities to induce expression of specific molecules which have been suggested to play a role in the pathogenesis.
Some antibodies cross-reactive with DNA and phospholipid induced expression of tissue factor in monocytes, and BAFF or IL-1β in macrophage-like cells, suggesting that these antoantibodies have pathogenic activities.
