Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Oral psychosomatic disorders show various medically unexplained oral symptoms. They are often regarded as “psychogenic”, but our data shows that 7-80% of them are not diagnosed as real mental disorders. Checking triggers at onset is useful to discriminate them from mental disorders. Our brain imaging studies detect significant right dominant blood flow asymmetries in broad areas of brain in these patients. These findings suggest some basal brain dysfunctions in these patients with medically unexplained oral symptoms.
