Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, we developed a “web-based nursing program for facilitating shared decision making about treatment” for cancer patients needing decision support during risk communication in personalized medicine. Specifically, we created 1) a website for patients entitled “Even if you get cancer…live your life the way you want – how to make decisions”, designed to prepare patients for decision making and 2) a decision support guidebook based on a “Nursing Model for Supporting Shared Decision Making (NSSDM) with cancer patients about their treatment” as a guidance tool for nurses. Our investigation on the effects of these two tools revealed their efficacy and associated challenges.
