Research Abstract

Neuronal migration is one of pivotal steps during brain development, whose malfunction causes epilepsy and/or mental retardation. We found that an autism-related gene regulates actin dynamics and participates in neuronal migration. Targeted disruption of the gene in mice results in abnormal behavior resembling some human psychiatric disorders. By screening of kinase inhibitors that affect neuronal migration in slice cultures, we identified some candidate kinases involved in neuronal migration. Although we generated mice carrying focal cortical dysplasia-lie structures in the brain, we could not detect epileptic symptoms among them.
