Research Abstract |
Design, synthesis, and aggregation of novel polymers bearing functional dye pendant groups were investigated for electron donor materials in organic photovoltaics. Polymers having branched squaraine dyes as pendant groups were successfully obtained and confirmed to form aggregates between pendant dyes. These polymers exhibited panchromatic property originated from the exiton-coupling between two chromophores in branched dyes as well as between branched dyes in side chains. Conventional bulk heterojunction solar cells based on these polymers as electron donor materials showed wide spectrum response, indicating polymers bearing pendant dyes evidently contributed to the photo-electric conversion in cells.
