Research Abstract |
IBCAP (intestine derived beta-cell augmenting promoter) is another intestine-specific secretory protein with incretin-like activity, identified in our laboratory. IBCAP have pancreatic beta-cell proliferation activity in vitro. And, insulin positive cells were demonstrated in the liver of STZ treated type 1 diabetes model mice infected with IBCAP expressing adenovirus. Our results indicate that IBCAP could have an activity to induce not only proliferation but also differentiation of beta-cells. IBCAP may be used as a potent inducer for pancreatic beta-cell regeneration.
