Research Abstract |
This study investigated physiological responses, biomechanical responses, and rating of perceived exertion during running in water and on dry land at various stride frequency conditions and at maximal effort. Our observations suggest that a change in stride frequency may influence muscle activity from the rectus femoris, biceps femoris, tibialis anterior, and gastrocnemius during running in water. Furthermore, it was suggested that a change in exercising environment (i.e., dry land versus aquatic environment) may influence physiological (e.g., oxygen consumption, heart rate) and biomechanical (e.g., muscle activity, stride frequency) responses during running at maximal effort.
