Outline of Final Research Achievements |
I empirically investigate the effect of the enforcement of the Japanese competition policy on destabilizing cartels and reducing probe costs of JFTC. Through the natural experiment using the 2005 amendment of Antimonopoly Law, I find that increasing fines and introducing the leniency program does not have an impact on the weakening the influence of cartel groups. On the other hand, I show that this revision of the enforcement may contribute to the cost reduction of competition policy authority.
