Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The Hokkaido Nansei-oki Earthquake generated a tsunami that caused huge damage in the southwest of Hokkaido. This study discusses a research on the disaster recovery, especially tsunami memorial event and disaster education in Okushiri Island. Tsunami memorial event started in 1993. Town office closed event in 2013.Then they cannot share their message. The bereaved family and A group of residents keep their ceremony. After the the Sumatra Earthquake in December 2004, the Okushiri town office started sharing its preparedness and reconstruction program to people outside the island. The town hall designated key persons to answer inquiries from outsiders and has been generous in sharing their experiences in this regard. After the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011, the Okushiri town office and residents have received requests for interviews. And Some of them started voluntary to pass on their experience.
