Research Abstract |
The present study evaluated the efficacy of group cognitive behavioral therapy (GCBT) for depression in Japanese college students. Forty-two college students at risk for depression, who were selected based on cut-off score of CES-D, were randomly allocated to a GCBT program or a usual care control group. Participants who received GCBT showed significantly decreased depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation than those in the control group. In addition, 2 participants with major depressive disorder who completed the identical GCBT program showed substantial decrease in depressive symptoms.
