Research Abstract |
The investigation into thermo-capillary driven rupture led to two papers on this subject. Most notably, we observed self-similar behaviour even in the absence of van der Waals forces. The study of non-uniqueness of similarity solutions for the thin-film dipole problem identified various classes of first and second kind solutions that interact in a complex manner. The work on backward similarity solutions has led to a complete classification of this type of similarity solution for the thin film equation; the methodology is applicable to other high-order parabolic equations. We have completed a paper on this topic, but have decided to publish the results at the same time as our related study into focussing in thin film flows. We plan to submit the results of this work in the near future.
