Research Abstract |
The precise measurement of the decay 3-alpha particles from Hoyle state in 12C, which plays important role of the creation of 12C in the stellar nucleosynthesis, has been performed in order to study the structure of the Hoyle state experimentally. The experiment was performed at Cyclotron and Radioisotope Center in Tohoku University using the 12C(12C,3alpha)12C reaction with the 12C4+ beam of 110 MeV. The background-free energy distribution of the decay alpha particles was obtained by the coincidence measurement of the decay 3-alpha particles and the recoiling 12C. We have observed the direct 3-alpha decay from the Hoyle state in12C for the first time in the world. The branching ratio of the direct 3-alpha decay has been obtained from the comparison with the result of the Monte Carlo simulation.
