Outline of Final Research Achievements

Clathrasil minerals are a very rare type of silica minerals that contain natural gases in their crystal structures. We aimed at elucidating crystal-chemical properties of natural clathrasil minerals and their genesis.
In addition to two species of clathrasil minerals, melanophlogite and chibaite, we found another new clathrasil mineral, bosoite, which was approved as a new mineral by the Commission on New Minerals, Nomenclature and Classification (CNMNC) of the International Mineralogical Association (IMA). We also discovered world's second occurrence of chibaite from Nagano Prefecture.
