Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of N-acetylcysteine (a glutathione precursor) on prevention of psychosis, cognitive function and functional capacity in subjects with an at-risk mental state (ARMS). The results suggest that N-acetylcysteine may be safe and may also have beneficial delayed effects on cognitive functions and functional capacity. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report which examined the effects of N-acetylcysteine on clinical symptoms and functioning in subjects with an ARMS, although it is preliminary.
