Research Abstract |
I have developed new functional materials which appear through stable complexation with lanthanide (Ln(III)) ions for selective separation of rare metals. Firstly, I prepared the meso-structural materials and O and N-donor atoms as different PTA ligands. Then the PTA ligands were successfully immobilized onto mesoporous materials. The functional design such O and N-donor atoms materials made stronger interaction with heavier Ln(III) ions as clarified by EXAFS analyses and X-ray crystal structures. The data also revealed that XAFS spectra of each Ln(III)-ligands are the same in Ln(III)-ligands-mesoprous materials which are very interesting and exceptional the solid functional mesoporous materials for heavier Ln(III) ions. The Ln-O bond distances were around 2.4 Å based on a crystallographic structure and EXAFS in the liquid state. However, the Yb-O bond distance was 2.19 Å which were unusual and interesting finding in the solid-state nanomaterials if the sum of ionic radii of carbonyl oxygen (PTA) and Yb3+ would be taken into account. Also I have conducted other transition and precious metals separation using specific ligand based materials at optimum condition.
