Scientific Significance and Expected Research Achievements

クック諸島北部の環礁地域の社会が、脆弱な限界環境で生き延びてきたことを解明する研究である。研究方法は、社会人類学的、歴史人類学的、かつ考古学・地理学的なアプローチを協同研究として採用し、時系列的かつ多角的に変化を構築するという点は、効果的であり独創的である。将来激化するであろう地球温暖化に伴う環礁社会の変化及び対応策に関して重要な視点を提供しうる研究であり、社会貢献となり得る研究である。
