植物学者の持つ、植物を種同定するための多次元的な「雰囲気」を、植物学者の生体指標・運動情報・および周囲環境の情報を統合して解明しようとする人間拡張工学のアプローチは斬新である。また、「雰囲気」を形成する要素の解明とともに、新規感覚拡張ツールの開発と評価を通じて技能伝承に迫ろうとする点に高い独創性がある。
