温室期サンゴ化石による高精度気候復元と海洋生物応答の解明：温暖化未来へのアナログ

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

将来の温暖化とそれに伴う海洋酸性化は、海洋生物に深刻な影響を与えることが予想されているが、未だに、温暖化や酸性化の実態とそれに伴う海洋生物への影響は明らかになっていない。本プロジェクトでは、過去数百年間における高解像度気候復元に成功している造礁性サンゴ骨格の年輪解析の手法を、白亜紀以降の９つの規模と要因が異なる温室期の化石サンゴに応用し、１）温室期環境（水温、塩分、二酸化炭素濃度、海洋酸性度、栄養塩濃度）の季節―数年変動の定量的復元を試みる。さらに、それぞれの時代の造礁性サンゴの成長特性を解析することにより、２）過去および将来の温室期における礁性生物の適応を探る。これらの成果は、将来の温暖化地球における海洋の環境変動とそれに伴う海洋生物への影響を予測する上で、世界でもはじめての重要な一次情報となる。
プロジェクト立ち上げ初期に横浜でワークショップを開催し、研究計画の確認、予備調査の成果や掘削技術、 解析手法のこれまでの研究成果と今後に期待される成果をレビューする。オマーン陸上調査を開始する。掘削する現生サンゴ群体の選定と水温・塩分計1台を設置する。また、クレタの予備調査を行う。各層順から得られた化石試料の年代決定(ストロンチウム同位体比およびウラン系列年代)を行う。オマーン現生サンゴ水中掘削その1(ターゲットは1現在の温暖期)を行う。水温・塩分計1台を設置する。水中ボーリングで得られた試料は、北海道大学サンゴコアセンターにおいて処理を行う。

Reason

平成26年2月までに、オマーン現地調査により水中及び陸上彫削によりサンゴ骨格試料を採取した。
平成26年3月までに、現地調査で得られた骨格試料を解析を一部終了した。

Strategy for Future Research Activity
