Outline of Annual Research Achievements

海草藻場と周辺浅海域におけるブルーカーボン動態の把握を進めるために、フィリピン沿岸域で採集した堆積物・海草試料の処理と分析を行った。また既存の分析データと文献資料に基づき東アジアからオセアニアにかけての海草藻場のブルーカーボン蓄積速度の概括的な評価を実施した。
Coral triangle海域のフィリピン・ボリナオ海域およびインドネシア・ケンダリ海域（Rawa Aopa Watumohai国立公園）を対象に現地観測を実施し、ボリナオでは過剰養殖に伴う栄養塩負荷とCO2放出/吸収特性の関係を雨季・乾季にわたり明らかにした。ケンダリでは国立公園内外のマングローブ林が保護されている場所、伐採され養殖地に変換された場所を対象に、土壌の流出状況の違いや栄養塩、炭酸系といった水質の違いを調査した。
サンゴ礁生態系のブルーカーボン動態モデルを高度化するために、前年度までに開発を進めていたサンゴポリプモデルにサンゴの白化モジュール等を組み込み、より多様な環境変化に対する動的応答過程を定量的に記述可能なモデルを開発することに成功した。このモデルを海水流動モデルと統合することにより、サンゴ礁生態系のリーフスケールでのブルーカーボン動態モデルへと高度化した。併行して「大気－陸域－海域システム統合型」モデル体系の開発を進めた。
また、マングローブ生態系のブルーカーボン動態を予測するために、陸上植物の植生モデル（SEIB-DGVM）に塩分耐性モジュール、台風の影響評価、マングローブ独自の成長パラメータ等を導入し改良を加えることで、マングローブ植生動態モデルの開発に成功した。これは、マングローブ中の炭素のみならず、土壌に堆積した炭素蓄積量も評価できるモデル体系となっている。さらに、土壌の炭素蓄積量が生物擾乱の影響を強く受けることから、生物擾乱をモデル化することでブルーカーボン動態モデルの高度化を進めた。

Reason

本研究課題における重要な柱の一つであるブルーカーボンに関する国際共同調査研究に関しては、昨年度に引き続いて，フィリピンとインドネシアサイトにおいて具体的な調査を実施するとともに、国内の比較サイト（沖縄）においても複数のサイトについて調査を実施し、マングローブ林や海草藻場といった主要なカーボンストック要素に関するデータを取得することが出来ている。そして、マングローブ域における土壌の生物攪乱といった新たな重要項目についても、詳細な現地データを得ることに成功している。そして、沖縄やフィリピン等のサイトにおいて現地調査を実施することにより、人為的環境負荷の程度の違いによる沿岸域での物質循環と付随する炭酸系動態特性の違いを明らかにしている。
もう一つの本研究課題の重な柱であるモデル開発に関しても、当研究室でこれまで開発してきたサンゴ礁生態系を対象とした物理－化学－生物過程統合モデルや陸源負荷評価モデルをさらに高度化するとともに、陸上の森林を対象に開発されているモデル（SEIB-DGVM）をベースとして、塩分耐性モジュール、台風の影響評価、マングローブ独自の成長パラメータ等を導入し改良を加えることで、マングローブ植生動態モデルを開発すること成功している。これらのモデルは、熱帯・亜熱帯沿岸域でのブルーカーボン動態の定量的評価と地球温暖化等の環境変動下での将来予測を可能にするものである。
リモートセンシング解析に関しても、衛星画像解析によるマングローブ林やサンゴ礁の広域マッピングを進めており、さらに、ドローン（マルチコプター）によるマングローブ林や海草藻場、サンゴ群集域の空中写真撮影を実施し、それらの超高空間分解能画像の取得に成功している。これによって、それらのたんなる空間分布（被度）情報のみならず、種構成情報等も得る道が拓けた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

研究協力協定に基づくフィリピンやインドネシアの海外協力機関・グループとの現地調査やリモートセンシング画像解析等をさらに進めるとともに、国内の比較サイトとしての沖縄等での対応する現地調査を進める。これらの現地調査に当たっては、本研究課題で開発を目指している「サンゴ礁－藻場－マングローブ統合沿岸生態系・ブルーカーボン動態モデル」の開発に資する調査を行うべく、綿密な検討・準備を経て調査計画を立案する。
また、衛星画像解析やマルチコプターの応用といったリモートセンシングによる沿岸生態系の面的動態把握の試みをさらにすすめる。
そして、上記モデルをコアとして、沿岸生態系を取り囲む様々なローカル・グローバル環境負荷変動要因のもとでのブルーカーボン動態の解析を可能とするためのモデル体系の開発・発展に取り組み、様々なローカルな人為的環境負荷や将来的な気候変動のもとでの沿岸炭酸系特性の変動予測やブルーカーボン消失量の予測を可能とするための検討を行う。
