Outline of Final Research Achievements |
It is necessary to reconstruct three-dimensional (3D) complex organs in current tissue engineering. In particular, construction 3D complex tissues including microvascular networks is a big challenge. In this study, we investigated a technology to vascularize 3D hepatocyte tissues. Specifically, we could construct 3D hepatocyte tissues with microvessels by controlling the timing of vascular formation and hepatocyte tissue formation in 3-channel microfluidic devices. Furthermore, we demonstrated hepatocyte-conditioned medium and collagen gel microspheres could promote vascularization of hepatocyte tissues.
