Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, we have studied novel quantum orders which are realized in insulators, superconductors, and semimetals. Special focus is made on theoretical studies of “symmetry-protected quantum orders” which are obtained by combining quantum properties like topology of wave functions with symmetry specific to individual systems. In particular, using a mathematical theory of topology called the K-theory, we have completed topological classification of topological crystalline insulators and superconductors in the presence of order-two point group symmetries. This result indicates that much more materials may host symmetry-protected quantum orders than we expected.
