Outline of Final Research Achievements

To gain knowledge on how diverse Asian diets affect host health through gut microbiota, we have established Asian Microbiome Project with ten Asian countries. Phase 1 targeted school-age children and Phase 2 targeted whole age group from newborn to elderly. We found that (1)Asians harbor Bifidobacterium more than Western population, (2)Asian gut microbiota can be classified into two types, (3)Bifidobacterium decreases and Enterobacteriaceae increases with age commonly among Asia, (4) country-associated features present in gut microbiota of Asians.
