Outline of Final Research Achievements |
①After 1960’, ALS/PDC, especially ALS, has been decreasing in the Kii peninsula subsequently to on Guam island.②No or only subtle accumulation of BMAA (β-Methylamino-L-alanine) in the brains of Kii patients. ③GWAS revealed candidate SNPs of 5 chromosomes in the patients with Kii ALS/PDC. The diagnostic criteria and severity index were published under supervision by the Japanese Society of Neurology.④New articles regarding neurotoxic BMAA, cerebellar neuropathology, OPTN neuropathology and nitration stress have been accepted by several international journals.
