Outline of Annual Research Achievements

The following activities had been accomplished so far:
1.Initial feed back for the App design was tested with nursing staff at two universities in Sri Lnaka and Uganda; and the design was revised for App's interface accordingly. The response for original design was excellent based on the comments from nursing staff at the two institutuions.
2. Bench mark study was completed by two Research Assistants after reviewing both Apple (iOS) Apps and Android Apps
3. Prototype Android App is ready. It is undergoing further development now by research assistant.
4. Once the Android App is ready, I will be tested again for its appeal.
5. On related area, two refreed articles were published.6. The design and benchmark prelimenary results were presented in conference.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.

Reason

The two Research Assistants who worked on the development graduated in June 2014 and moved back to their countries (Mongolia and Indonesia respectively). So, they needed settle down time and because of this the development time was bit delayed. Now, the development is progressing well. I use only one former research assistent. I communicate with him by Skype and look at the prototype models he develop.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

As said earlier, it was decided that developing two Apps will be better than having one complex App. This we realized after the prototype was made. Now, two Apps are developed seperately.
The two seperate Apps will do the following
1) "patient monitoring", to be used by nurses to monitor the situation of patients of rural areas.
2) "child growth", to monitor the growth of new born childs, following WHO booklet guide, as recommended by UN Millenium goals.
Plan to test both Apps this year.

Causes of Carryover

The App development is done by research assistant under my supervision; the development cost money. Also, it is planned to make a survey to test the new App; the plan is to do this in Sri Lanka and Uganda by visiting there.

Also, plan to present the result in an academic conference.

Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget

1. App development cost
2. Visit Sri Lanka dn Uganda
3. Attend academic 2 conferences
