Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Suppression of gonadal development occurs in rats kept in constant darkness. The purpose of this study was to determine the composition of the “improved diet (G-diet)” or “non-improved diet (B-diet)” required for the suppression of gonadal development induced by the constant darkness and to clarify the mechanism of gonadal development control by the diet composition. The weights of testes from rats given the G-diet, which consists of the 9% casein diet (C-diet) and additional methionine, vitamin E, and pantothenic acid, were higher than those of rats given the C-diet. It is possible that the suppression of testes development in rats fed the C-diet and kept in constant darkness is related to low androgen receptor expression and low dihydrotestosterone synthesis. As such, it is possible that androgen receptor expression and dihydrotestosterone levels improved in rats kept in constant darkness when fed the G-diet.
