Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The mechanism of stretch-stimulated glucose uptake in skeletal muscle was investigated. Our results suggest that stretch produces NO through nitric oxide synthase activation and increases calcium release from sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) by S-nitrosylation of ryanodine receptor of SR, resulting increase in glucose uptake through CaMKII activation. Our results also suggest that stretch-induced glucose uptake involves insulin- and contraction-independent pathways.
