Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The primary purpose of this research project is to clarify the politics unconscious of self-other representation and identity politics in postwar Japan and Korea. After the World war II, Japan has a troubled and complicated relationship with Korea. Korean identity has long been measured against and framed in opposition to Japan. The issue of anti-Japanese sentiment in Korea is complex and multifaceted. Moreover, issues of Japanese policy regarding World War II often incur huge disputes between Japanese and Korean. Based on these considerations, the aim of the project is to rethink the national identity and the politics of memory in postwar Japan and Korea, and further demonstrates that the two countries can complement their cultural differences and stereotypes.
