Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The Terra Sigillata is the most famous category of fine ware and it was massively manufactured and diffused throughout the territory of the Empire during Roman times. In research on the Roman civilization of the Western world, it is one of the important topics of study, but its recognition in Japan, where the Mediterranean ceramology does not exist, remains too limited. The aim of my research is to present the Terra Sigillata to the Japanese researchers of all the fields that work on the Roman civilization. For this purpose, I have systematized the history of research of the Western world and Japanese terms on this subject. Systematizing the long history of Terra Sigillata is something that is no longer done in research on the Roman civilization of the Western world because of their research segmentation. It is for this reason that this study is of enormous importance for our country, where the study of Roman ceramology has only just begun.
