Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research has investigated constructions in which Verb Phrases occur in positions different from the unmarked position or in forms different from the unmarked form, and proposed adequate structures and derivations for them. For example, in the predicate doubling construction where a predicate is repeated twice, it is argued that a predicate raises to a functional category in a high position in the clause and is pronounced there as well as in the position where it has originated. VP-focus pseudo-cleft sentences and the affirmative negative emphatic construction were also examined in this study.
