Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In this project, we are collaborating to develop a system that combines gestural recognition [GR], facial recognition [FR] and speech recognition [SR]. This will help students improve their presentation and interview skills. In 2015, I took part in a faculty exchange between my home school of Toyama Kosen and Fukui Kosen. While in Fukui, I did not have access to the equipment I needed. Therefore, I extended my research for one year.
However, we did do the following: FR: We improved the system to include facial expression analysis. Using subjects we were able to identify a rich facial expression, and create a baseline to further analyze the type of non-verbal cues communicated through facial expression.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
Due to the one-year as a visiting professor at Fukui Kosen, it was difficult to progress my research. As such, I asked for an extension. However, we were able to present our facial expression analysis at an international conference.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
We will continue our research into the 3 components. We will also improve the facial expression analysis part, combining GR with FR.
|
Causes of Carryover |
In 2015, I was posted in Fukui Kosen for 1 year as a visiting associate professor. I carried over remaining research funds to 2016.
|
Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget |
Make final presentation of research at an international conference in North America [EdMedia 2016, Vancouver, BC] and use remaining funds to publish a paper on my three years of research.
