Outline of Final Research Achievements

The main purpose of this study is to explore anthropologicaly on production and utilization of maritime products (especially pearls) in and around Sulu maritime world. In this regard, besids ethnographic field work, I have conducted archival research on related topics in the related areas as well, such as whale meats, sea -cucumbers, and mother of pearls and so on, from both comtenporary and historical contexts.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究を通じて、これまで相対的に研究が為されてこなかったスールー諸島をはじめとする東南アジアにおける真珠やシロチョウガイの貝殻など関連する海産物の生産・利用状況の事例に関する実地資料等を、中東や南アジアなどにおける事例に関する文献資料等とも比較検討する作業を行うことができた。こうした比較参照の作業を通じて 、地域間での共通点と差異を検証して解明することができ、更に東南アジア地域と日本などを含む域外の間のこうした「もの」と「ひと」（技術者）そして技術それ自体の移動のネットワー クについても実地データと文献資料の両方から明らかにすることが出来た。
