Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In April, my book Religion, Identity and Human Security was published by Routledge. A summary of the main findings of the book was presented at the Japan Association of Human Security Studies Annual Convention in September and subsequently published in The Journal of Human Security Studies in October. Research for the article and presentation was carried out in the British Library of Economic and Political Science and the British Library in August. From May to July, I worked on a joint paper on presented at the International Studies Association-FLACSO conference in Buenos Aires on The Securitisation of Territorial Decolonisation: The Case of Southern Chile. Research for the article was carried out by my co-author. I was subsequently able to interview representatives of piquetero movements in Argentina which helped to clarify my understanding of the relationship between resilience and security in Latin America. Furthermore, I was invited to present papers based on issues related to my project at Thamasat University, Bangkok in December and at the International Studies Association Annual Convention in February in New Orleans where I was invited to organize a Preisdential panel.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
My primary research objective for 平成26年度 was achieved despite my considerable teaching and administrative responsibilities. Religion, Identity and Human Security was published in April and two articles related to the project were published, one 'Human Security at Twenty: A Post-Secular Approach' in the Journal of Human Security Studies in October and the other, 'Civilizing Mission or Civilizing Process? Toward a Post-Western Understanding of Human Security' in a Special Section on Political Violence and Human Security in the Journal of Social Science in March. Furthermore, I presented a summary of the main argument of the book at the Japan Association of Human Security Studies Annual Convention in September and at Ritsumeikan University at an international symposium commemorating 20 years of Human Security in January. I presented on ongoing research at the ISA-FLACSO conference in Buenos Aires in July, Thamasat University in Bangkok, Rutgers University in New Jersey and the ISA Annual Convention in New Orleans.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
The first two months of 平成27年度 will be spent doing background theoretical research on the impact of land-grabbing on indigenous communities in Latin America. In June, I will take part in a panel at the Rotary International Symposium in Sao Paulo on Indigenous Peoples/Land Rights: Impact on the Development of Peaceful Societies. However, I will not have time to carry out extensive research in Latin America due to teaching commitments. In August, I will carry out empirical research in the United Kingdom and Italy. Specifically, I will attempt to arrange interviews with representatives from the Confederazione Generale Italiana del Lavoro (CGIL) in Italy and Occupy movement in London to contrast the strategies of collective resistance to neoliberal policies. Preliminary research findings will be presented at the Japan Association of Human Security Studies from December 12-13 and the International Studies Association Annual Conference in Atlanta, USA between March 16th-19th.
