Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Research has been carried out in Latin America and Asia to a certain extent but not in Europe on the impact of the global financial crisis on the human security of ethno-religious minorities. A single-authored, refereed book examining the relationship between Religion, Identity and Human Security was completed and published by Routledge in 2014. A paperback edition was published in 2015. The book outlines the theoretical framework used in the analysis and proved to be a significant contrbution to Human Security studies. The success of the book influenced the decision of the Japan Association of Human Security Studues (JAHSS) to ask me to act as convenor of the JAHSS Annual conference held at ICU in Dec 2015.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
Progress was delayed since I was forced to postpone my research leave until AY2016 as I was appointed as Director of the Rotary Peace Centre at ICU in AY2015. This impacted upon my research since I was unable to carry out research in Europe. For AY2016, I will be based in Europe at the London School of Economics (LSE) and will be able to carry out the necessary research on the continued impact of neoliberalism and the global financial crisis on subjectivity and human security in the region in order to carry out a cross-regional analysis.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I wil be based in Europe at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) where I am a research fellow at the Centre of International Studies. This will enable me to carry out research in the UK and continental Europe (Italy) and also to liaise with research partners based in Europe. Contact has already been made with research partners in the University of London (LSE and SOAS) and contact is being established with researchers at the European University Institute (EUI) in Firenze, Italy. A public lecture is planned at LSE in October 2016 and I will be completing a co-authored book with Professor Gurharpal Singh, Dean of the Humanities at SOAS, during the course of AY2016 to be published. This will be pulished by Cambridge University Press.
|
Causes of Carryover |
I will be based in Europe at the LSE and therefore avle to carry out empirical research and consult with research partners.
|
Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget |
I will use my carry-over budget to carry out empirical and theoretical research in Europe and South Asia in AY 2016. Specifically, it will be used to subsidize my stay at the LSE (April 18 2016-Mar 312017), a research trip to Italy to interview members of Labor Unions (CGIL) and a trip to South Asia (India) in Dec 2016-Jan 2017. A laptop computer may also be needed for research and presentations wull be made at the International Studies Association (ISA) Asia-Pacific conference in June (25-27) and European International Studies Association (EISA) conference in Izmir, Turkey in Sepetember.
