Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The objective of this research is to develop a method to estimate the scale of tourism economy of small areas. In the research, we conducted a survey on the current situation of tourist statistics for Asian countries including Japan. Moreover, we constructed a model for estimating tourism sales in small areas using map information and data of individual establishments obtained from the Regional Tourism Economic Survey conducted by the Japan Tourism Agency. Additionally, as an example, we estimated the GDP by railway station and industrial sector in the 23 wards of Tokyo. These results indicate that data for small area which is not restricted by the administrative district is necessary for tourism analysis, and establishment-level data and map information are useful for compiling the data for small area.
