Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In FY2014, I have published a paper that uses a model developed in FY2013 in Contemporary Economic Policy in April 2014. The model is to eliminate the effects of markup, returns to scale, and capital utilization from the Solow residual to derive an alternative measure for productivity.
I have extended the model further to develop another model that includes both embodied and disembodied technical progress without restrictive assumptions of constant returns to scale and perfect competition, and applied it to industrial panel data for the Japanese manufacturing industry to estimate factor determinants of total factor productivity growth. This is the third working paper I completed based on JSPS research fund.
I have been to eight academic meetings to disseminate two unpublished working papers that estimate and identify factor determinants of productivity growth for the Japanese manufacturing industry, including the Japan Applied Economic Association's Spring Conference, The Korean Economic Association's International Conference, The Korean Economic Association's Allied Economic Conference, and The 79th International Atlantic Economic Society Conference.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
My research purpose in FY2014 was to extend the empirical model developed in the previous year, and I developed a new model based on the previous model and applied it to Japanese manufacturing panel data. In this sense, I think I am progressing towards my research goal as expected. I have already completed three papers as I originally planned in my research proposal.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In FY2015, I am going to compile panel data of Japanese manufacturing firms and estimate factors that affect productivity growth at the firm level for the Japanese economy. I am planning to write a couple of working papers based on the panel data to have a total of five research papers, which will exceed the number of working papers to which I originally committed.

Causes of Carryover |
I have 117,629 yen remaining from my advance payment that I made in FY2014 to present my working paper at an academic conference in Milan, Italy, March, 2015. There was a bargain air ticket I found. Furthermore, air tickets were generally cheaper than I expected due to the low gasoline prices at that time.
|
Expenditure Plan for Carryover Budget |
I will use the remaining fund to finance my research trip to The Japanese Economic Association's Spring Conference held at Niigata University, 23-24 May 2015.
