本研究では、東アジアの経済格差の収斂と成長の両立に向けた地域統合のあり方を理論・実証的に模索した。本研究における分析の主眼は、当該地域経済の成長・発展に対する阻害要因（具体的には、アジア諸国の多くが直面する成長の阻害要因である「脆弱なインフラ」や「為替変動リスク」、「環境リスク」など）の撤廃が、域内各国および全体の所得・厚生・環境に及ぼす影響に注がれた。
基礎調査・研究の成果は数本の論文にまとめ、学会発表やForeign journal掲載という形で公表している。主な業績の概要は次のとおりである。(1) "The effect of exchange rate fluctuation on intra-industry reallocation in a firm heterogeneity model with trade and foreign direct investment" Quarterly Review of Economics and Finance (Forthcoming)は、為替レート変動が産業内の資源配分に及ぼす影響について理論的・実証的に考察した論文である。(2) "Environmental policy, intra-industry trade, and foreign direct investment" (投稿中)は、環境規制の強化や規制に関する国際協調が各国および世界の汚染排出量に与える影響を考察した論文である。加えて、(3) "Firm heterogeneity and the behavior of Japanese manufacturing multinationals in India"、(4) "Trade and labor market interactions revisited"の2本が投稿準備中である。これら諸研究により、成長阻害要因の撤廃や経済の開放化が必ずしも所得・厚生・環境の改善をもたらすものではないことを明示した。この指摘は、各国間経済格差の収斂を促進するとされる貿易・投資の自由化を梃とした経済連携・統合の拡大・深化と域内諸国の経済成長・発展との連関について再考をうながす一つの理論的根拠になりうると考える。
