本研究は、戦前の感化教育(教護教育)における障害児問題の顕在化と展開に着目し、法律上の対象規定と実際の運用（入所児童の実態）との整合性・不整合性という視点から、感化院入所の経緯や入所後の処遇および児童鑑別による入所不許可(分離処遇)の実態について明らかにすることを目的としている。2016年度は、主に２点の研究をすすめた。第１に、児童自立支援施設および国立武蔵野学院図書資料室などに保管されている、施設要覧（入所児童の規定）や児童の統計記録などの調査および整理、第２に、感化院長会議録などから看取される各感化院の入所児童の実態、および処遇に関する分析である。これらの作業をまとめ、２件の学会発表を行った。第１の点に関しては、「感化法・少年教護法の対象規定と入所児童の実態に関する研究」（社会事業史学会）として発表した。第２の点に関しては、「Educational Issues of Children with Disabilities in Reformatory Education」（Scientific Conference, Human Resource Development for Inclusive Education of Children with Disabilities in Vietnam）として発表した。加えて、後者については、「Educational Issues of Children with Disabilities in Reformatory Education: Around Act Reformation Act (1923-1933)」（Journal of Education Science-Ministry of Education and Training）として公表した。
