Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We created a novel online musical intervention and assessed its effects on music and language perception for 7-9 year-old children with cochlear implants and normally hearing children. Overall, children with cochlear implants spent more time on the training tasks than normally hearing counterparts, suggesting that the intervention was motivating for them. We plan to test more children with cochlear implants in the coming year.
Additionally, we investigated electrophysiological responses to pitch deviation with adaptive timing partner. Results showed that having an adaptive partner leads to better pitch perception and cognition (measured by electrophysiological mismatch negativity [MMN] and N400 responses to pitch change) compared with having a non-adaptive partner.
