Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study analyzes the contents of history textbooks of Japan and the U.S. in the 2010s, and explores how they represent nationalism and connect it to, or differentiate it from, the concept of human coexistence. Furthermore, this study attempts to understand and analyze trends in multicultural education theory and multicultural social theory, and also seeks to investigate social consciousness regarding nationalism and human coexistence. School education in Japan is tasked with propagating nationalism in the country as a device for national unity, but, amidst rising social diversity in recent years, it has become a venue for encouraging a wider human coexistence. By dissecting the logic of the link between nationalism and human coexistence, this study aims to clarify the modern aspects of the logic behind social integration, which is being transmitted through history education in schools.
