Outline of Annual Research Achievements

URu2Si2は17.5Kで鋭い比熱のピークを生じ相転移を示す。しかし、その秩序変数について20年もの多くの理論・実験による多大な研究にもかかわらず明らかとなっておらず、隠れた秩序として呼ばれている。最近、隠れた秩序に伴う正方晶から斜方晶への歪みが報告され、隠れた秩序との関係について注目を集めている。
今回、この歪みが隠れた秩序との関係を検証するために、放射光X線による後方X線散乱実験を実施した。URu2Si2単結晶について(880)ブラッグ回折点の拡がりの温度変化について2次元検出器を用いて注意深く調べた結果、隠れた秩序に伴う正方晶から斜方晶への歪みは、報告された精度では起きていないことを確認した。よって、URu2Si2で過去に観測された斜方晶への低対称化は、試料依存のある現象であり、隠れた秩序の本質ではないことが強く示唆される。対称性を保つ理論モデルの検証を改めて進める必要がある。
