Outline of Annual Research Achievements

これまで、計画していた3つの方式((1)溶融型光ファイバ分岐・結合器の技術を応用する方法。(2)マルチコアファイバ側面の加工によりクラッドへ励起光を入射する方法。(3)レンズ系を用いる方法。)の中で、(1)の方式において顕著な研究の前進が見られたため、特に本方式に注力して検討を進め、目標とするマルチコアEDFA(MC-EDFA)の特性改善のための検討を進めた。クラッド励起における励起光の入射方法として、平行したマルチモードファイバ(MMF)からMC-EDFAの第一クラッドへのモード結合を利用した方法を検討しているが、使用するMMFコアとMC-EDFA第一クラッドの屈折率の変化に対し、結合効率が過敏に変化してしまい、現実的なファイバの製造を考えたときに課題となることが問題となっていた。実際に第一クラッド径を変化させてモード結合の様子をシミュレーションで確認することにより、コア径が大きくなることによって屈折率変化にセンシティブに結合効率が変化することが確認できた。そこで、MMF側のコア半径及びMC-EDFA側の第一クラッド径を変化させながら結合効率を確認することで、提案するマルチコア光増幅器の特性を明らかにした。また、本研究課題の応用についても検討を進め、MC-EDMAを利用したマルチコアファイバ・ネットワークにおけるROF技術や多値信号伝送、非線形現象の補償技術等、幅広い応用範囲において研究成果を得た。
