Outline of Final Research Achievements

Composite of graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) with metals were studied for developing new performances. Visible-light active g-C3N4 was prepared by condensation of melamine at 550C, followed by alkaline hydrothermal treatment to increase the surface area. Prepared g-C3N4 was mixed with silver acetate solution at a high shear rate (shear mixing method). In the shear mixing, silver ion was reduced with a fraction of g-C3N4 to form aggregation of metallic silver nano-particles on the surface of g-C3N4. The silver particles had high mobility, and the silver particles spread on the surface by adding methyl mercaptan as adsorbate. The adsorption site for methyl mercaptan was specifically increased, and the photocatalytic activity on the degradation of methyl mercaptan was also significantly improved.
